THE CHALLENGE
The exhibit fabrication department at the Royal BC Museum wanted to capture the orca tooth as a 3D model and create a 3D-printed prototype.
THE SOLUTION
Using a fixed Polyga structured light scanner, we scanned the orca tooth. The artifact was mounted and rotated in multiple orientations to fully map the surface geometry.
A 3D digital asset complete with texture and colour was captured and exported as a polygonal mesh model.
This model can be used for fabrication and contains data that represents the real world size. This 3D model can also be exported in various alternative formats for virtual reality environments.
